About this scholarship

Webster Scholars Programme

You get a merit-based scholarship (an award based on your grades, not your financial need) of up to CHF 10,000 per year (about 10,700 EUR) as a selected first-year student at Webster University's Vienna campus in Austria. Continuing students who are invited receive up to CHF 5,000 per year (about 5,350 EUR) towards tuition, depending on available funds. For first-year students the award renews each year as long as you keep your grades up. You can combine it with need-based financial aid, but the combined support stays below half of your tuition. Beyond the money, you join an academic excellence track built into your bachelor's degree: a research seminar, a bachelor's thesis written with a faculty mentor (a professor who guides your work) in your own subject, a public presentation of that thesis, and a Scholars Certificate when you graduate. The programme is run by Webster University Vienna.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are a Bachelor’s student at the Vienna campus of Webster University in Austria.
  • Grades: You have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.5 on the 4.0 scale, the US grading system used by the university.
  • Invitation: Applications are not accepted. A scholarship committee selects students with outstanding academic achievements.
  • Field of study: Open to all degree programmes and all Bachelor’s degree programmes.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • When you can join: As a first-year student selected through the admissions process, as a transfer student who will spend at least four semesters at Webster University, or as an advanced student after completing at least two full-time semesters, each lasting 16 weeks, but with no more than 80 credits earned.
  • Language: You will need to be able to speak and write English, as lessons are taught in English.
  • Engagement: Preference will be given to students who regularly take part in extracurricular activities on campus or in the local community. This is an advantage, but not a requirement.

How to apply

You do not apply directly. The scholarship committee invites students who have distinguished themselves. This takes place as part of the admissions process for first-year students or later during your degree, provided you meet the requirements regarding your average mark.

How realistic are your chances?

Admission is by invitation only and is subject to a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, meaning that the pool of eligible applicants is already quite small. If you apply to Webster Vienna with outstanding academic achievements and a proven record of extracurricular involvement, your chances of standing out are good. However, you cannot force your way into a place: the decision lies with the selection committee. Only if you maintain high grades right from the start will you remain in the running.
