About this scholarship

Start Help scholarship at the mdw Vienna

You will receive 300 to 600 EUR per month for 9 months, paid out over one academic year, as a grant to help cover the costs of starting your studies in Vienna. The exact amount within this range depends on your individual circumstances. The mdw, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, awards this grant to international students who are unable to finance the start of their studies entirely themselves.

Who can apply

  • University: You’re studying at the mdw in Vienna.
  • Where you come from: You are an international student, not an Austrian.
  • Study phase: You are in the first semester or first year of a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Diplom degree programme, and this is your first degree at the mdw.
  • Field of study: Every subject taught at the mdw.
  • Financial need: You can prove that you are unable to cover the costs of starting your degree from your own resources.
  • Age: In October 1, you will be studying for a Bachelor’s or Diplom degree under 24, or for a Master’s degree under 28.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the mdw form. The application period begins on 1 September and ends on 31 October. You cannot apply until you have been admitted and have activated your mdwOnline account. You will receive a response by email by the end of November.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are very strict. You must be an international student in your first year of study at a specific university, not exceed a specified age limit, and be able to demonstrate financial need. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and submit your complete application documents by the deadline, your chances are good.
