About this award / prize
Leistungsstipendium of the Hessische Lutherstiftung
You will receive a one-off cash award for an outstanding piece of academic work that you have produced during your studies. The amount of the award is not made public. The Foundation Board determines the amount based on the quality of your work. The prize is awarded by the Hessian Luther Foundation, which is part of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN). It recognises an outstanding piece of academic work and not your overall academic progress.
Who can apply
- Field of study: You are studying Protestant theology or undertaking a teacher training course specialising in ‘Protestant religious education’. Both pathways are recognised as equivalent.
- Career goal: You intend to work as a pastor in the EKHN or to take the first teaching qualification for Protestant religious education and subsequently work in the EKHN.
- Church list: You are registered on the EKHN’s official list of theology students.
- Your paper: You must submit a theological seminar paper or term paper that has been awarded a grade of 2.0 (‘good’) or higher and is no more than two years old. Catechesis or sermon papers will not be considered.
- Proof: Please enclose a copy of the mark sheet for the term paper.
How to apply
Please send a written application, including your thesis and your degree certificate as PDF files, to the EKHN Church Administration. There is no official application form. You may apply twice a year, by 15 February and by 31 August respectively. The committee will then make a decision based on your thesis.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding is very narrowly defined. You must be studying Protestant theology or undertaking a teacher training degree in Protestant religious education, be registered on the EKHN’s student register, be aiming for a career in church work or religious education, and submit a dissertation with a mark of 2.0 or higher. This leaves only a small group of eligible candidates. If you meet these requirements and can present a convincing, up-to-date thesis, your chances are good. There is no legal entitlement to the scholarship.
