About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a fully covered summer language course abroad, which is funded by two sponsors. Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI) will cover your return economy-class flight from your place of residence to your destination. The host country will cover your course fees, accommodation and meals. No cash will be paid out; these costs will simply be covered on your behalf. The stay lasts approximately 1 months, with the exact dates to be determined by the host country. You will learn the local language in one of WBI’s partner countries: Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Tunisia or Turkey.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are studying at a higher education institution run or funded by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (the French-speaking Community of Belgium), or you have obtained a degree there.
  • Study progress: You have passed at least 2 years of your studies. For a course in the Czech Republic, 1 completed year is enough.
  • Graduates: If you have recently graduated from such an institution, you are also welcome to apply.
  • Field of study: All fields are permitted.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply, provided they are studying at an eligible institution in Wallonia-Brussels.
  • Other funding: You may not receive any other public funding for this course at the same time.

How to apply

You apply by email to the WBI’s International Scholarship Service. For some countries, you must instead register on a country-specific portal. The deadlines depend on the destination country and are around 1 November or 1 December. The WBI will first check whether your application complies with the rules and then forward it to the partner country, which will make the final decision.
