HELMo financial aid for students without a scholarship

You get a one-off cash grant towards your study costs at the Haute École Libre Mosane (HELMo) in Liège, Belgium. It is a gift, not a loan, so you never pay it back. There is no fixed figure. HELMo sets the amount individually based on your household's finances. You can use it for study costs: your enrolment fee (minerval), course materials, equipment, student housing, transport, a computer or tablet, and educational activities. HELMo's social council manages the aid.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled as a student at HELMo.
• No other grant: You do not get a study allowance (allocation d'études) from the Federation Wallonia-Brussels and no scholarship from your home country. A foreign grant under 400 EUR still counts as none.
• Financial need: Your household income is low. HELMo verifies this using documents such as tax assessment notices and proof of income.
• Nationality: You meet the nationality requirements set out by the HELMo Social Council.
• Field of study: Any subject at HELMo is an option.
• No penalty for repeating a year: Repeating a year will not have a negative impact on you, and HELMo does not assess whether your studies appear to be financially viable.

How to apply

You should submit your application during a face-to-face meeting with the social worker responsible for your campus (assistante sociale de référence). Please arrange an appointment by email. You can submit your application at any time of the year up until 13 September. Please bring documents with you that show your family and financial circumstances.
