About this scholarship

State of Greece Scholarships for Foreigners

You will receive 650 EUR per month to study at a Greek state university. You will not pay any tuition fees and will receive free textbooks (with the exception of books for Greek language lessons). If you do not yet speak Greek, you will also receive free Greek language lessons for a full academic year before the start of your studies, up to level B2. Greek universities require this level for enrolment. The scholarship is awarded by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It covers the standard duration of your studies plus two additional years (N+2). To retain it, you must pass a sufficient number of your modules each year. Both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are covered.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: You are a foreign national or a person of Greek origin who lives permanently abroad.
  • Where you study: You are studying at a public Greek university. In your application, you can select up to three degree programmes.
  • Level: Open to Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Country: The list of eligible countries changes with each round. For 2025–2026, these included, amongst others, Albania, Serbia, Ukraine, Egypt, Jordan, India, South Korea, Brazil, Argentina and South Africa. Please check whether your country is listed in the current call for applications.
  • No double funding: You may not receive another scholarship at the same time.
  • For postgraduate applicants: You must hold a recognised bachelor’s degree and have been admitted to a Greek master’s programme.

How to apply

You must submit your application to the Greek Embassy or Consulate in your home country, not directly to the Ministry. All foreign documents must be officially certified and translated into Greek. The deadline for 2026–2027 is 27 July 2026. For 2025–2026, it was 8 September 2025.

How realistic are your chances?

For 2025-2026 the ministry awarded about 50 fully funded undergraduate scholarships across all eligible countries. The number of applications is not published.
