What you get

You receive EUR 1,000 per participant to carry out a project in Québec, Canada, up to EUR 10,000 per project. You also get travel assistance insurance for your whole stay. The programme is run by the Bureau International Jeunesse (BIJ), the youth exchange office of the French-speaking community of Belgium, with its Québec partner LOJIQ.

Your project can be one of these:

• a study visit to meet experts in a field
• building a partnership with people in Québec who do similar work
• a youth exchange
• taking an active part in a conference, forum or event

The BIJ team can talk through your idea with you, guide you during the project and read over your application before you submit it.

Who can apply

• Age: You are 18 to 35. If you are 16 or 17, you can take part if a youth leader travels with you.
• Where you live: You speak French and have lived in Wallonia or Brussels for at least 2 years. Any nationality can apply.
• Alone or in a group: You can apply on your own or as a group of up to 10 funded young people.
• Your project: Any theme is possible. You spend at least 7 days on project activities in Québec. Tourist trips, school or university trips, internships that are part of your studies, sports exchanges, tours, work camps and commercial activities are not funded.
• Priority: People with no previous international experience and no earlier BIJ grant are preferred.

How to apply

You apply online on the BIJ website. You need written confirmation from your Québec partner and a detailed programme for your stay. There are five deadlines a year: 1 February, 1 April, 1 June, 1 September and 1 November. Each deadline is for projects starting about 3 months later. You get a decision within 6 weeks of the deadline.
