What you get

You will receive a one-off payment of 5,000 EUR to complete your PhD thesis at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). This scholarship supports PhD students whose regular funding has come to an end and who require assistance to complete their thesis. It is awarded once a year by the David and Alice Van Buuren Fund in conjunction with the Jaumotte-Demoulin and Héger-Masson Foundations.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a PhD student and are in the final year of your doctoral thesis.
• University: You are doing your PhD at the Université libre de Bruxelles.
• No other funding: You will not receive any further funding or scholarships beyond the academic year 2025–2026.
• Time limit: No more than 12 years have passed since you enrolled on your PhD programme.
• Funding history: Since you first enrolled, you have received research funding for at least 2 years.
• Completion: You may submit your dissertation by 1 February 2027 at the latest.
• Field of study: You are studying in any of the following faculties: Life Sciences, Exact and Applied Sciences, or Humanities and Social Sciences.
• Track record: You have an impressive track record of research achievements, for example in the form of publications.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the ULB’s internal platform, ‘Infofin’. The deadline for applications for the 2025–2026 round is 6 May 2026, and the selection process will take place in June. You may submit your application in French or English.
