About this scholarship

Priority Country Programme grant

As a Flemish student you get 700 EUR per month, capped at 2,800 EUR, to spend a study period, internship or thesis research in one of eight partner countries: Brazil, Chile, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, South Africa, Turkey or the United States. Incoming international students coming to Flanders get 850 EUR per month, capped at 3,400 EUR. Your stay must last at least 1 month and up to 1 year, but the grant only pays for up to 4 months. You also get a travel allowance of 360, 820 or 1,500 EUR, depending on how far the destination is. If you belong to an under-represented group (you receive a Flemish study allowance, have a recognised disability, or work while studying), you get an extra 200 EUR per month, up to 800 EUR more. The programme is run by VLUHR International with the Flemish Department of Education and Training.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled full time at a Flemish higher education institution.
  • Degree level: You study for an associate degree, bachelor or master (EQF level 5, 6 or 7).
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Where you go: Your stay is in Brazil, Chile, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, South Africa, Turkey or the United States. For Turkey, only 1-month stays are funded.
  • Agreement in place: For a study stay, your home and host institution have a cooperation agreement or a letter of intent. For an internship, you have a traineeship agreement with the host company or organisation.
  • No tuition fees: Neither the Flemish nor the partner institution may charge you tuition for the exchange.
  • Not there yet: You are not already living in the destination country when the selection happens.

How to apply

Your Flemish institution first nominates you. You then register in the Mobility-Online tool and submit your application, including a motivation letter, your transcript and a recommendation letter. Applications open on 16 February 2026 and close on 1 April 2026 at 23:59. A selection committee decides, with each application reviewed by two independent assessors. Results come out in May 2026.
