About this scholarship
"Tremplin +" internship grant
You will receive your international travel costs reimbursed up to 1,000 EUR for a short trip abroad. The grant covers the cheapest fare for any mode of transport, with preference given to trains and buses. You may travel abroad for one of two reasons: to actively take part in a conference, forum, colloquium or event (for example, to present your own project, or to speak as an expert or as a first-hand witness) or to complete a short practical course that is not offered in French-speaking Belgium. Travel expenses are the only financial support you will receive. There is no daily allowance. You will also receive a preparatory meeting to discuss your idea and support from the BIJ team throughout the project. The grant is provided by the Bureau International Jeunesse (BIJ), an organisation of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.
Who can apply
- Age: You are between 18 and 35 years old.
- Where you live: You have been living in Wallonia or Brussels for at least 2 years.
- Language: You are French-speaking.
- Not a student: You are no longer enrolled as a student.
- Destination: Any country in the world, provided your project constitutes a valid reason for travelling there. Some countries cannot be funded for security or diplomatic reasons. Neighbouring countries are given priority.
- Type of project: A conference or event trip lasts at least 3 days. A practical training course lasts at most 12 weeks. Academic, research, doctoral, humanitarian and development-NGO projects are not funded, and neither is anything you do for your employer.
- How often: Applications for a ‘Tremplin’ grant may be submitted no more than once a year and no more than twice in total. Preference will be given to applicants with no international experience and who have not previously received BIJ funding.
How to apply
You create an account on the e-BIJ platform and complete the online form. The application deadline is the 1 of each month. You can depart no earlier than 6 weeks after submitting your application. A selection panel will make a decision by the end of the month and notify you by email.
