About this scholarship

Pisart Scholarships

If you commence your civil engineering degree at the University of Liège in Belgium, you will receive a one-off starting grant. The exact amount depends on how far you live from the university and your family’s financial circumstances. The money is paid out right at the start and thus helps to cover the costs of beginning a long course of study. It comes from the Fernand Pisart Bequest, a fund left by a Belgian mining engineer who graduated from the university in 1902. It is now managed by the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

Who can apply

  • School level: You’re in your final year of secondary school.
  • Degree you want to start: You are planning to start a degree in civil engineering (ingénieur civil) at the University of Liège.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Financial need: Your family’s financial situation is taken into account. The university determines this on the basis of the percentage of your tuition fee reduction.
  • Grades: You have achieved very good grades at secondary school.
  • Motivation: You can explain why you want to study engineering.

How to apply

Please scan your completed application form and email it to the Pisart Office by 31 March if you wish to commence your studies in September of the same year. A panel comprising representatives from secondary schools, lecturers from the Bachelor’s degree programme in Engineering, and members of the Pisart jury will decide on the award of the scholarships.

How realistic are your chances?

Every year, around 20 scholarships are awarded; in some years, the number is even higher (24 in the year 2023 and 32 in the year 2020, thanks to a one-off increase).
