What you get

You get an interest-free loan of up to 1,500 EUR per study year if money problems are holding back your studies at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Brussels. You can use it for course materials, books, equipment, tuition fees and living costs, and even for a stay abroad such as Erasmus. The loan has no interest, but it is index-linked: the amount you repay is adjusted for inflation once you start working. You can usually apply twice during your studies. In some cases the committee turns the loan into a grant you never have to pay back. The money comes from the Union des Anciens Etudiants de l'ULB (UAE), the university's alumni association, funded by member donations and repayments from former borrowers.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
• Financial need: Financial difficulties are a real obstacle to continuing one’s studies.
• Field of study: All subjects are eligible.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

You do not apply to the UAE directly. Get the application form from the ULB student social service (Service Social Etudiants, SSE) on the Solbosch campus, which handles the requests. For the 2026-2027 academic year, you can apply from 24 August 2026 until 16 April 2027 at 13:00.
