About this scholarship

The Brock-Bredals Scholarships of Randers

You will receive money from an old charitable fund set up by the merchant Niels Brock and his wife, Lene Bredal. Most grants are paid out as annual amount for life, and the amount depends on which part of the fund applies to you. The amounts range from 365.50 DKK (about 49 EUR) per year for widows and widowers in need, through to 434.00 DKK (about 58 EUR) per year for a child who has lost one or both parents and is still at school, to a one-off 18,030.00 DKK (about 2,420 EUR) dowry (‘brudelegatet’) for the daughter of a low-income family who is getting married. The town of Randers (Randers Municipality) in Denmark pays out these grants. This is social and family support for people in financial need, not a traditional university scholarship.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: You live in Randers (within the town’s boundaries as they were before the local government reform 2007).
  • Financial need: You are in a genuine financial crisis.
  • Which part fits you: You belong to one of the fund's groups. These trace back to Randers merchant, town-council, clergy and teaching families, to their orphaned children, or to a daughter marrying from such a family.
  • For the child grant: The child has lost their mother or father but continues to attend school. This situation may continue until the child reaches 18.
  • For the dowry: You are getting married after the application deadline has passed, but before the payment is made in mid-December.
  • Priority: If you are in an emergency situation, are related to the founders and live in Randers, you will be given priority. You must provide proof of your family connection.

How to apply

You can complete the form online on the Randers City Council website using MitID, the Danish digital ID. You can also collect a paper form from the Citizens’ Service Centre in Randers and hand it in there. The application period will open again in May 2027, with a further round following in autumn 2027. The exact deadline has not yet been announced.
