About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive a one-off grant of DKK 5,000 to DKK 15,000 (about 670 to 2,000 EUR) and, in exceptional cases, up to 30,000 DKK (approximately 4,000 EUR). The department awards several grants each year. You should use the money primarily for study trips or for printing costs if you are publishing an academic paper. In some cases, the committee may spread the grant over several years. The grant is administered by the Institute for Nordic Studies and Linguistics (Institut for Nordiske Studier og Sprogvidenskab, NorS) at the University of Copenhagen.

Eligibility

  • Field of study: You are studying Nordic philology (language, literature and history of the Nordic countries) or cultural history, specialising in early literature, dialects or folklore.
  • Level: You are an advanced student or a recent graduate, usually a younger researcher.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • University: You can apply, no matter where you’re studying.
  • Family link (bonus, not required): If you are a direct descendant of Bishop N.F.S. Grundtvig or of the vicar Jørgen Block of Lønborg (born 1838), you will be given priority, provided you meet the other requirements.

How to apply

You must send a written application by post to the department in Copenhagen. There is no specific form to use. Please include your address, email address, your personal identification number (personnummer) or CVR number, the amount requested and your reasons for the application. The deadline is 1 November each year, and funding is usually awarded in the autumn.
