The Beckett Foundation - Beckett Foundation Scholarship

What you get

You will receive a grant to help fund an arts or cultural project in Denmark or abroad. There is no fixed amount per application. In 2025, the average grant was around 82,000 DKK (approximately 11,000 EUR), but the amounts vary considerably depending on the project. The money can be used for the project itself or for related costs. These include sound and film recordings, exhibitions, the production and acquisition of works of art, teaching and research, book publications, digitisation, and study trips relating to art and culture. The funding comes from the Beckett Foundation (Beckett-Fonden), a Danish charitable foundation established in 1989. It supports art and culture across a broad spectrum: theatre and drama, film, singing and opera, dance and ballet, music (particularly classical and jazz), painting and sculpture, design and crafts, literature and archaeology.

Eligibility

• Who you are: You can apply as an individual, a group, an organisation or an institution.
• Field: Your project must be in the field of art or culture. Sport, leisure and purely social support for individuals are not eligible for funding.
• Where it happens: The project may take place in Denmark or abroad. Study trips are only funded if they relate to art and culture, but not to business or technology.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Timing: Your project must not have already begun before the committee has considered your application. The date on which the event begins – for example, an exhibition opening, a book launch or a premiere – is the decisive factor.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Foundation’s online portal. Applications sent by email or post will not be accepted. There is no fixed application deadline, and you may apply at any time; however, you should do so well in advance of the start of your project. Please write your application in Danish, keep it brief and include a budget breakdown. You can expect a decision within five months.

How realistic are your chances?

In 2025 the foundation received 2,325 applications and funded 387, so about 83% were turned down. Expect strong competition for a limited pot.
