About this scholarship
Egil and Maja Christiansen's Family Scholarship
You will receive a one-off grant from a Danish family trust fund, the ‘Egil og Maja Christiansens Familielegat-Fond’. The fund does not disclose the amount of the grant, which is determined by your financial circumstances. The money is primarily intended for education or further training, but may also be used to set up a business, for wedding expenses, in the event of illness, for recovery, or to cover rent. A prerequisite for applying is that you must be a direct descendant of one of two families from Langeland.
Who can apply
- Family line: You are a direct descendant of either the ship’s captain Hans Jokum Johansen Happe from Bagenkop and his wife Oline (the ‘Happe’ line) or the farmer Mads Hansen from Kinderballe, Langeland, and his wife Johanne Madsdatter (the ‘Kinderballe’ line).
- Proof of descent: On your first application, you show your baptism certificate and trace your ancestors back to one of these couples, across up to 6 generations.
- What you need the money for: Please describe the purpose for which you require the funds, e.g. education, setting up a household or a business, illness, recovery or rent.
- Financial situation: You will need to provide details of your income, taxes, assets and debts. The benefit is means-tested.
- Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. What matters is your ancestry.
How to apply
You can apply using the fund’s online form or download the PDF form, sign it and send it to the administrative office in Svendborg. Your application must be received by 31 October each year.
If this family trust fund does not apply to your ancestry, you may find suitable alternatives in our guide Scholarships in Denmark.
