About this scholarship
What the Family Hede Nielsen Foundation supports
You will receive a one-off grant for a specific project: a Master’s degree or an internship, a research or PhD placement, a conference at which you will give a presentation, or a cultural or community project. There is no fixed amount and no monthly payments. You specify the amount required in your application, and the foundation decides on a case-by-case basis. In total, it awards 5 to 8 million DKK per year (about 670,000 to 1,070,000 EUR) across all its grants. The foundation is based in Horsens, Denmark, and supports education, research, culture and social causes which it considers beneficial to Denmark.
Who can apply
- Level: To undertake a study, work placement or research stay, you must be at Master’s level (candidate) or above. This is the second main phase of a degree programme in Denmark.
- You apply yourself: To apply for a study or work placement as part of your Master’s degree, you must apply as a student; your university does not apply on your behalf.
- Conferences: You will only receive funding if you give a talk from the podium. Posters do not count. Please enclose proof that you are scheduled to speak.
- PhD and larger projects: Applications for full PhD or collaborative projects must be submitted by the institution, quoting a Danish company registration number (CVR). A PhD placement abroad is an exception to this rule: in this case, you may submit the application yourself, provided that you are responsible for managing the funding.
- Field of study: All sectors, particularly further education, the arts and culture, and research.
- Nationality and age: There are no restrictions regarding nationality or age. Your project should benefit Denmark.
- Culture: Cultural projects in the Horsens region take priority.
- Not funded: Your own living expenses, as well as commercial projects such as book publications, films, concerts, shows or exhibitions.
How to apply
You can apply throughout the year using the Foundation’s online form. You must submit your application at least 60 days before the project begins; otherwise, it will be rejected. Please write the application in Danish, although attachments may be in English. The Foundation assesses applications in the order in which they are received, and every applicant will receive a reply by email.
How realistic are your chances?
The foundation receives between approximately 1,700 and 2,000 applications each year and allocates between 5 and 8 million DKK (approximately 670,000 to 1,070,000 EUR) to these applications. The amount of funding varies considerably, so a smaller, well-justified application may be more likely to be approved than a larger one.
