About this scholarship

What the scholarship offers

You will receive a travel grant to study church history abroad. The grant covers a period of study in another country, with preference given to England and Scotland. The exact amount and duration are not disclosed. The scholarship was established in memory of J. Oskar Andersen (1866-1959), Professor of Church History at the University of Copenhagen. It is aimed at Danish theology students, theology graduates and clergy who wish to deepen their knowledge of church history abroad.

Who can apply

  • Field of study: You are studying, or have studied, theology and have specialised in church history.
  • You fit one of three groups: a theology student with strong exam results, a theology graduate ready for advanced church history study abroad, or a member of the Danish clergy planning a study stay abroad.
  • Grades (for students): You achieved a top grade in your upper secondary school exam (studentereksamen) and in the required theology pre-examinations.
  • Where you go: You will use the scholarship to study abroad. Possible destinations include other Nordic countries, as well as England and Scotland, with preference given to England and Scotland.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply; however, the scholarship is intended for Danish theology students and clergy.

How to apply

Please send your application by post by 1 October. Please enclose a budget and your examination certificate, and mark the envelope ‘Professor J. Oskar Andersen’s Bequest’.
