About this scholarship
Galician language-stay grant
You will receive a one-off payment of 1,200 EUR for a summer language course abroad, or 1,500 EUR if your destination is outside Europe. The course must last at least three weeks (excluding travel days) and comprise at least 45 hours of face-to-face tuition. Your stay must be between 1 June and 31 August 2025. The funding comes from the Regional Government of Galicia in Spain, which has allocated a total of 228,000 EUR for these grants.
Who can apply
- University: You are enrolled on a bachelor’s degree programme (Grado) at a state university in Galicia: A Coruña, Santiago de Compostela or Vigo.
- Credits: You are enrolled for at least 50 ECTS credits this year (2024/25) and had already earned at least 60 ECTS credits by 30. September 30, you had already earned at least 60 ECTS credits. ECTS credits transferred from another higher education institution are not taken into account.
- The language: You are taking a face-to-face course in the official language of the country you are travelling to, which must be a language other than Spanish.
- Field of study: Anyone interested is welcome to apply.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. You may not, however, use the scholarship to study in the country of which you are a national.
- First time only: You did not receive this grant in a previous year.
- No double funding: You will not receive any further funding for the same course, so you cannot, for example, combine this with Erasmus for the same trip.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the Xunta de Galicia’s electronic portal using form ED416A. The deadline for applications is 3 March 2025 (one month after the call for applications is published). Applicants will be ranked according to their grade point average. In the event of a tie, the applicant with the highest number of credits will be selected. There is also a waiting list.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding scheme is narrowly defined: only Bachelor’s students at the three public universities in Galicia who have earned the required number of credit points are eligible to apply, meaning the pool of applicants is small. Selection is based purely on a ranking list according to grade point average – so the better your grades, the better your chances. With a budget of 228,000 EUR, which funds a large number of places, a suitable student with solid grades has good prospects.
