About this scholarship

Grants for Plastic and Visual Arts (La Rioja)

You will receive 6,250 EUR to fund training in the field of fine arts and audiovisual media. The training does not have to lead to a formal qualification and can take place anywhere in the world. You can therefore study at a leading school, with an artist or with a specialist abroad. The Regional Government of La Rioja in Spain awards 2 of these scholarships. Your planned activity must take place between 1 July 2026 and 25 October 2027. The amount will be paid in two instalments: half upon approval of the scholarship and the other half once you have provided evidence that you have spent it on your training.

Who can apply

  • Age: You are under 35 when you apply.
  • Where you live: You must be registered as a resident (empadronado, entered in the local register of residents) in a municipality in the La Rioja region. You must have been registered before the start of the application period and must still be registered at the time of application.
  • Field: Your project falls within the field of visual arts or audiovisual media. Under the same call for applications, there are separate funding schemes for literature and the performing arts, as well as for music. You may only apply for one of these three areas.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. The only requirement is that applicants must be resident in La Rioja.
  • Past grants: If you have already received funding from this funding scheme in any of the three areas, you must wait 3 years before you can submit a new application.
  • One application: You may only submit one application.

How to apply

You can submit your application online via the La Rioja Regional Government’s electronic portal (using a digital certificate) or in person at an authorised registration office. The deadline is 13 May 2026. You must submit a detailed description of your training project, including a budget, as well as a letter of support from a recognised training institution or a respected professional in your field. Applications will be assessed on the basis of the quality and merit of your project, as well as your artistic career.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this award are strictly defined: you must be under 35 years of age, be registered as a resident in La Rioja, and be active in the field of visual arts or audiovisual media. The pool of eligible applicants is small, and only 2 grants will be awarded. If you clearly meet these criteria and submit a compelling, well-thought-out project, supported by a letter of recommendation from a recognised expert, your chances are good. A compelling project and a clear artistic track record are the most important factors.
