University of Oviedo - Mobility Scholarships for Study Abroad

What you get

You will spend a semester or a full academic year at a partner university abroad. There are no tuition fees at the host university, so you can enrol there free of charge. Depending on your destination, you may also receive a travel and living allowance. The University of Oviedo determines the amount of the grant in each round by dividing the total budget amongst the selected students; therefore, the amount depends on your destination and the duration of your stay. In a recent round, students shared a total of 95,000 EUR. Some destinations top up the amount further; for example, by around 410 EUR per month at Ruhr University Bochum. There are more than 70 places at partner universities worldwide, including in countries such as Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, the USA, France, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, Taiwan and Tunisia. Some agreements allow you to obtain a double degree, meaning you graduate with a degree from both universities. Shorter summer courses lasting around five to six weeks are also available.

Who can apply

• Your university: You are enrolled at the University of Oviedo.
• Degree level: You are studying for a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree on an accredited course.
• Study progress: Before the start of your period abroad, you had earned at least 60 ECTS credits on your degree programme.
• Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
• Nationality: You are a national of the EU, EFTA or the EEA, or a student from a non-EU country with a valid Spanish residence permit.
• Language: You can provide evidence of the language skills required at your destination, for example by means of a certificate in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1 to C2) or an internal language test.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the University of Oviedo’s intranet. There are two application deadlines: from 8 to 29 November for semester-long and year-long stays, and from 1 to 15 September for stays during the second semester of Master’s and PhD programmes. Your assessment is based on your average mark (70%) and your language skills (30%). For most destinations, you will also be required to attend a personal interview to assess your motivation, your ability to work independently and your spoken language skills.

How realistic are your chances?

Only students who are already enrolled at the University of Oviedo may apply, so the pool of applicants is limited from the outset. With more than 70 places available, your chances are good provided you meet the entry requirements. Grades account for 70% of the total score, so in most cases a good grade point average is crucial, supplemented by a solid language certificate. Apply early and prepare for the interview, as performing well there will earn you 1.5 bonus points.
