About this scholarship
UAL Predoctoral Research Contract
You will be offered a full-time employment contract for your PhD at University of Almería (UAL) in southern Spain. The remuneration consists of a gross salary of approximately 1,173 EUR per month for up to 36 months (3 years). This is not a traditional scholarship, but a fixed-term employment contract (‘contrato predoctoral’), meaning that you will be enrolled in the Spanish social security system and enjoy the associated rights. The contract will only be renewed each year if your progress is assessed positively. The contract is funded from the university’s own research budget.
Who can apply
- Degree: You hold a higher education qualification that entitles you to enrol on a doctoral programme, for example a Master’s degree worth at least 300 ECTS credits, and you have not yet obtained a doctoral degree.
- Where you study: He is studying for his PhD at the University of Almería.
- Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
- Grades: You achieved at least 7.0 out of 10 in both your Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes.
- Supervisor: A qualified researcher at UAL agrees to supervise your dissertation and signs your application.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. If you are from a country outside the EU, you will need a valid work visa before your contract begins.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the University of Almería’s electronic register. You must submit a research proposal and your academic transcripts. The application deadline is 24 September. Selection is based solely on a merit-based ranking list, which takes into account your grades and your research record; there will be no interview.
How realistic are your chances?
The contract is tied to a specific university and requires a supervisor who has agreed in advance to supervise your thesis. Consequently, the eligible subject areas are narrowly defined, and only a handful of places are offered in each selection round. If you clearly meet the minimum mark requirement, already have a supervisor and have a solid research proposal, your chances are good. As selection is based purely on academic merit, good marks and any publications are decisive.
