What you get

You will receive 15,000 EUR. 75% will be paid out in monthly instalments whilst you are carrying out your research, and the remaining 25% will be paid to you once you have submitted your completed thesis. In addition, your department or research centre at your university will receive 3,000 euros to cover the cost of materials for the project. Once the contract has been signed, you will have one year to carry out the research and a further six months to write up your thesis. FICYE, a Spanish organisation that promotes research into moderate beer consumption and health, awards two prizes each year.

Who can apply

• Degree: You have completed a degree in health sciences or are currently undertaking a Master’s or PhD programme in a health sciences discipline.
• Age: When applying, you fall under 35, i.e. you were born on or after 1 January 1990.
• Research topic: Your project focuses on moderate beer consumption and its link to human health. Topics such as cardiovascular prevention, mental health, neurology, digestion, oncology, the microbiota, nutrition and the Mediterranean diet will be viewed favourably. Studies on conditions that have already been diagnosed are not eligible.
• Where you do it: The project is being carried out at a Spanish university, in a hospital or at a research centre.
• Supervisor: Your project manager works at a Spanish university, hospital or research centre.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, but must submit their application in Spanish. The paper itself may be written in Spanish or English.

How to apply

Download the application form from the FICYE website, complete it and email it to FICYE, together with your supporting documents, by 15 December 2025. Your supervisor must approve a brief summary of your project (max. 850 words). A scientific committee will then make the final decision, and the winners will be announced at the end of January 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is very narrowly defined: only two are awarded; you must be under 35 and have a background in health sciences; and your project must specifically address moderate beer consumption and health at a Spanish institution. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate with a strong supervisor and a clearly defined project on one of the preferred topics has a genuine chance of success. The committee may also decide not to award the scholarships if no candidate is convincing enough; therefore, the quality of your proposal is crucial.
