About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a one-off grant of 300 to 600 EUR. This is intended to cover your tuition fees as well as the cost of books or study materials for the academic year. Tax will be deducted from this amount. If you belong to a large family (known in Spain as a ‘familia numerosa’) and were already exempt from tuition fees, you will instead receive an amount equal to the tuition fees you would otherwise have had to pay. The funding comes from the University of Cádiz (UCA) in collaboration with the local cemetery operator CEMABASA. They provide up to 13,200 EUR per round. In the 2024/25 round, 4 grants were awarded.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at the University of Cádiz for the current academic year.
  • Degree level: You are enrolled on an official Bachelor’s (Grado), Master’s or PhD programme.
  • Loss of a parent: One of your parents died within the year prior to the deadline. For the 2026 round, this means between 1 June 2025 and 31 May 2026. This is the key requirement.
  • Field of study: All subjects are open.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Other funding: This scholarship can be combined with other scholarships. You must declare any other funding you have received for the same reason.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted by email to the Office for Social Services at the University of Cádiz. Please send the application form, proof of a parent’s death, your enrolment certificate and proof of your financial circumstances. The deadline is 31 July at 14:00. A committee will then review the applications and make a decision based on financial need, urgency and academic performance.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very restrictive. You must be studying at the University of Cádiz and have lost a parent within a specific period of 12 months, meaning that very few students qualify for it each year. Only a handful of scholarships are awarded in each round, but given the small pool of applicants, your chances are far better than with open scholarships. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria and can provide evidence of both the loss and your financial hardship, your chances are good.
