About this scholarship

What the BOE traineeship gives you

You will receive 1,000 EUR gross per month for up to 24 months. The first phase lasts 12 months, and you may extend it by a further 12 months if you submit an application three months before it expires. This is a paid placement for university graduates at the Spanish government agency responsible for publishing the Official State Gazette (Boletín Oficial del Estado, or BOE for short), which is based in Madrid. You will work approximately 30 hours per week under the guidance of a mentor. You will learn how to process and publish legal documents, as well as how to manage the agency’s document archives. During the placement, you will be covered by the Spanish social security system. This is not an employment contract and there is no guarantee of subsequent employment.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a Spanish citizen or a national of an EU country.
  • Residence and language: If you are an EU citizen and do not hold Spanish nationality, you must have a level C2 (near-native level) of Spanish and be legally resident in Spain at the start of the work placement.
  • Degree: You hold a university degree (Licenciatura or Grado) in social sciences, law or the humanities.
  • Recent graduate: You obtained this qualification relatively recently (from the academic year 2012 in the 2017 cycle).
  • Specific training: You have a qualification in document management, archiving, librarianship or law.
  • Clean record: You have never been dismissed from the civil service as a result of disciplinary proceedings, and you are capable of carrying out the duties.
  • Not a repeat: You have not yet completed this BOE work placement, unless it lasted for less than six months.
  • No double funding: You are not currently receiving any other grants or benefits.

How to apply

You must apply within 20 calendar days of the vacancy being published in the BOE. You must submit your certificate, CV and proof of your qualifications to the BOE office in Madrid. If there are more suitable applicants than places available, you will be invited to a face-to-face interview.

How realistic are your chances?

The selection criteria are very narrow: only around six vacancies, a specific degree in social sciences, law or the humanities, additional training in document or library management, and – for non-Spanish EU citizens – C2 knowledge of Spanish and residence in Spain. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning a well-suited candidate has a genuine chance of success. Please note, however, that no new vacancy has been published since January 2020 and the agency is not currently advertising any internship opportunities.
