Stevenson Exchange Scholarships

You will receive a one-off grant of up to 2,500 EUR, with the exact amount being determined on a case-by-case basis. This will fund a project of your own during your time abroad that promotes Scotland and Scottish culture, such as a blog, a YouTube channel, a cultural event or a digital media project. The funding covers one academic year. Sir Daniel Stevenson established the scholarship to foster friendly relations between students in Scotland, Germany, France and Spain. The University of Glasgow administers it in conjunction with other Scottish universities. Travel costs to and from Scotland are not covered.

Who can apply

• Where you study now: You are enrolled as a Bachelor’s student at a university in Scotland, France, Germany or Spain.
• Year abroad: You’re about to start an internship or a year abroad as part of your degree in France, Germany, Spain or Scotland.
• Field of study: Any subject, not just languages.
• Age: You are 25 or younger.
• Your project: You are proposing a project to promote Scotland and Scottish culture abroad.
• Other funding: This grant can be combined with a language assistance grant or other scholarships.

How to apply

Please contact the Stevenson Scholarship coordinator at your Scottish university to obtain the application form. The application deadline is around 31 January. The selection process consists of two rounds: first, an interview will take place at your own university, followed in May by a final interview at the University of Glasgow before an external panel.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is highly selective. You must spend a year abroad in one of the specified countries and propose your own cultural project, which is why the pool of applicants is small. The selection process is rigorous, and some universities can only nominate a few candidates each year. A clear, creative project idea is more important than a polished CV. If you meet the eligibility criteria exactly and put together a convincing application, your chances are good.
