What the Ángel Herrera Awards give you

You will receive a cash prize and a signed, numbered sculpture in recognition of outstanding achievements in the fields of social work, teaching, research or the media. The amount depends on the category and starts at around 1,600 EUR for internal categories such as solidarity and social entrepreneurship. Each prize is a one-off payment, not a monthly grant. If two winners share a category, the amount is split between them. The Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU in Madrid organises the awards ceremony and presents the prizes each year around 25 January.

Who can apply

• Internal categories: Some categories are open exclusively to individuals or groups associated with the CEU Foundation’s centres: teaching staff, researchers, students, alumni and administrative staff.
• Open categories: Anyone can be nominated here: an individual, an institution or a company. These categories include ethics and values, the promotion of Catholic culture, collaboration between the business sector and the education sector, innovations in technical education, influence on social media, and the best journalistic piece on the subject of education.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
• Field: Open to all disciplines, tailored to the 14 categories on offer.
• Journalism entries: For the ‘Media’ category, your entry must have already been published in print media, online, on the radio or on television. It must not have won any previous awards. You can submit your entry yourself, or your editorial team can do so on your behalf.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the online form on the CEU Awards page, where you can upload your project as a file (if there are several files, please combine them into a ZIP file, maximum 15 MB). A jury of at least three people will assess the entries in each category; their decision is final. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in January.

How realistic are your chances?

There is a single annual prize per category, awarded by a panel of experts; the competition is therefore fierce. The jury may also decide not to award a prize at all. Your chances depend heavily on which category best suits you. In the internal categories, only people from the CEU community are eligible, so the field of entrants is smaller there. In the open categories, you’ll be competing against external institutions and companies. A clear, well-documented submission that fits a specific category perfectly really stands out.
