About this award / prize
What the Ángel Herrera Awards give you
These are annual awards presented by the Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU in Spain. They recognise work that has already been completed, rather than being a monthly scholarship for which one must apply in advance. Each winner receives a signed and numbered sculpture. Some categories offer prize money, but most are honorary awards, the value of which is not disclosed by the organiser. The only documented prize money is 6,000 EUR for the category ‘Best Journalistic Work on the Subject of Education’. In the event of a tie, the two entries submitted share the prize money. The prizes are awarded in approximately 14 categories and cover research, innovations in teaching, social solidarity, ethics and values, the promotion of Catholic culture, collaboration between the business sector and the education sector, and influence on social media.
Who can apply
- Type of award: This is an award for outstanding achievements you have already made, and not a scholarship for future studies.
- Who can enter: Some categories are intended exclusively for people associated with the CEU, such as researchers, lecturers, students, graduates or staff. Others are open to everyone, including external organisations and companies.
- Field: Any subject area is suitable, provided your work fits into one of the categories.
- Nationality: Participants of all nationalities are eligible to enter the open categories.
- For the journalism prize: Your work must have been published within the last year and must not have won a prize in any other competition.
- Excluded: You are not permitted to enter if you hold a senior management position at CEU, such as that of a director, rector or dean.
How to apply
You must submit your entry online via the CEU Award platform. You may only submit one piece of work or one project. If your entry is not written in Spanish, you must include a translation. The deadline for submissions in the ‘Journalism’ category was 17 October. A panel of at least three people will assess the submitted entries. There will be no interview, and the decision is final. A category may remain unawarded if no entry meets the requirements.
How realistic are your chances?
There is a single annual award per category, which is awarded solely on the basis of the quality of your submitted entries. Competition is fierce, and there is no guarantee of winning. Your chances depend heavily on choosing the right category and submitting a compelling, finished piece of work that clearly fits that category. The internal CEU categories attract a smaller pool of entrants. The open categories, such as the Journalism Award, attract entries from across the entire industry.
