Culturex Grants (Spanish Ministry of Culture)

For a paid internship in cultural management abroad, you will receive a monthly stipend for a period of up to 7 months. The amount depends on where you go: around 2,000 EUR per month for most European destinations, 2,500 EUR for London or Paris, 2,200 EUR for Mexico City and 3,500 EUR for the United States. The Spanish Ministry of Culture funds the scholarship and also covers accident and basic health insurance during your stay. You will be placed at a renowned cultural institution abroad, for example a museum, a festival or a book fair, or at a Spanish embassy, consulate or trade office. A mentor will support you in your work. You are responsible for the cost of your visa.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Spanish citizen.
• First degree: You hold a Spanish bachelor’s degree or licentiate degree. A degree obtained abroad must be officially recognised (homologated) in Spain.
• Postgraduate study: You have completed a Master’s degree or a specialist degree programme in cultural management or a related field.
• Languages: You must have at least level B2 in the official language of the country you are travelling to. For non-English-speaking countries, you will also need level B1 in English.
• Age: On the last day of the application period, you will be no older than 35.
• No double funding: You are not a serving civil servant. You have not previously received a ‘Culturex’ or ‘FormARTE’ grant. You are not receiving this grant at the same time as any other grant from the Ministry.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online via the Ministry of Culture’s electronic portal. A digital personal certificate is required to register. In 2026, the application deadline was 7 May, and a new call for applications is usually published every spring. Applications are assessed using a points-based system: academic background, postgraduate education, professional experience, language skills and a personal statement. For positions in cultural institutions, the five best applicants for each post are invited to an interview by the institution itself.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is highly selective. Only Spanish nationals under the age of 35 who hold both a university degree and a postgraduate qualification in cultural management are eligible to apply, and only around 16 places are available. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate has a genuine chance of success. Good language skills and a compelling personal statement play an important role, and you must also pass the interview successfully in order to be placed with an organisation.
