Generalitat Valenciana - Traineeships for graduates in Statistics and Library Science

What the traineeship gives you

You will receive 1,000 EUR gross per month for a paid work placement lasting 12 months. It can be extended by up to 12 further months, making a total of up to 24 months. You will not work more than 30 hours per week. You may apply for additional allowances if you attend courses or events related to your training and complete them with a certificate of completion. The programme is organised by the Presidency of the Generalitat Valenciana, which is offering 5 places: 3 in the field of library and documentation work at its Research and Documentation Service in Valencia, and 2 in the field of statistical data analysis at its Policy Analysis Service.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a ‘Diplomatura’, ‘Grado’ or ‘Licenciatura’ qualification recognised in Spain. For places on courses in library science, this qualification must have been obtained in the subject ‘Library and Information Science’ (Biblioteconomía y Documentación); for places on courses in statistics, it must have been obtained in the subject ‘Mathematics’ or in the subject ‘Statistical Sciences and Techniques’.
• How recent: You completed this qualification no more than 5 years before the deadline.
• Age: You are 35 years old or younger at the time the application deadline closes.
• Where you work: The location is the city of Valencia in Spain.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided that their qualification is recognised by the Spanish authorities.
• No overlap: You are not currently receiving any other grant from the Generalitat for work experience. Furthermore, since September 2009, you have not received such a grant for a total of more than 36 months.
• Obligations in order: You are up to date with your tax and social security contributions.

How to apply

You apply online through the Generalitat's electronic portal, filling in the standard application and CV forms, which need an electronic signature. The deadline is 15 working days after the call is published, in late January. Top-ranked candidates are called for an interview that tests your fit for the role. This includes your knowledge of the relevant software: document tools for the library places, SPSS or R for the statistics places.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a strictly limited scholarship: only 5 places, divided between two specific subject areas, for graduates under the age of 35 with a recently obtained degree who are able to live in Valencia. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly fit one of the two profiles and can demonstrate good grades as well as relevant software skills, your chances are good, as it is precisely this specialisation that is given particular weight during the interview and when your CV is assessed.
