UPCT Excellence Scholarship for New Students

You will receive a one-off payment of up to 2,500 EUR. The basic amount is 1,000 EUR and increases to 2,500 EUR if you have to move more than 45 km away from your parents’ home to study. The scholarship covers one academic year at the Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT) in Spain and is funded by Banco Santander. It is awarded to first-year undergraduate students with the highest university entrance examination results.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are starting your first year of a full Bachelor’s degree (Grado) at UPCT.
• First time at university: This is your first enrolment on a Bachelor’s degree programme. You do not hold a previous higher education qualification.
• University: You are studying at one of UPCT’s own campuses in Cartagena, Spain.
• Entrance grade: You have sat the Spanish university entrance examination (EBAU) and achieved an admission mark of at least 10 points. Places are allocated based on this score, so a higher mark is better.
• Field of study: Open to all degree programmes offered at UPCT.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they enrol at UPCT.
• Distance bonus: To be eligible for the higher amount of 2,500 EUR, your family’s place of residence must be more than 45 km away from your centre, which means you will have to live elsewhere.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Banco Santander scholarship platform by 30 March. There will be no interview. Selection is based solely on your ranking in the EBAU entrance examination; your school grades will be used as a tie-breaker in the event of a tie. At least one scholarship is awarded to each UPCT campus, and any remaining funds are allocated according to the overall ranking list.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this grant are very strict. You must be enrolled in the first year of a Bachelor’s degree programme at a specific university and have achieved an admission mark of at least 10 points. As at least one scholarship is reserved per campus, a very good result at a smaller campus may be sufficient to secure the award. If you can demonstrate an outstanding EBAU result and meet the criteria, your chances are good, and the distance rule could double your funding.
