What the UPCT scholarships offer

The Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT) in Spain awards various scholarships and study grants to its own students, the value of which, depending on the degree programme and your personal circumstances, amounts to up to about 992 EUR. The funding generally covers one academic year. The most common forms of support complement your studies in various ways. They can cover the fees for your initial enrolment, provide a contribution towards travel costs, or reimburse the public tuition fees you have paid. There are also grants for accommodation in halls of residence (some based on financial need, some on academic merit, and two for elite athletes), as well as paid work placements within the university’s academic departments. A special fund enables students who have failed exams for serious personal reasons to retain their tuition fees from the previous year.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled on a recognised Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at the Technical University of Cartagena.
• Field of study: Open to all fields of study. The university focuses on engineering, technology and economics.
• Where you study: You’re studying in Cartagena, Spain.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. For some state-co-funded scholarships, Spanish or EU citizenship, or residence in Spain, is required.
• Financial need or grades: Some scholarships are awarded to students who can demonstrate a need for financial support. Others recognise outstanding academic achievement. Which applies depends on the scholarship in question.
• Special cases: There are separate grants available for students living in halls of residence, for elite athletes, and for students who have failed their exams due to illness, an operation, a death in the family or a sudden financial emergency.

How to apply

You should submit your application online via the university’s electronic portal (Sede Electrónica) and attach the documents supporting your circumstances. The deadlines vary depending on the programme: The deadline for the university’s own study grants is 18 July, for hall of residence grants it is 10 July, and for the fund for exams missed due to serious circumstances it is 12 September.

How realistic are your chances?

These scholarships are aimed exclusively at students who are already enrolled at UPCT – a university with around 6,000 students – so the pool of applicants is naturally small. If you are studying there and clearly meet the eligibility criteria for a particular scholarship – whether due to financial hardship, your academic results, sporting achievements or proven hardship – your chances are good. Select the scholarship programme that best suits your circumstances and apply within the relevant application period, as places are limited for some programmes.
