About this scholarship

What you get

The University of Zaragoza will provide you with immediate financial assistance if, due to a sudden change in your personal circumstances, you are no longer able to fund your studies. This is supplementary funding, not a full scholarship. A committee decides on a case-by-case basis how much you will receive. The funding may cover one or more of the following three areas: your state tuition fees, additional study costs for your Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme, and a housing allowance if you have to live away from your parents’ home. The exact amounts are reviewed each academic year, so no fixed amount is guaranteed in advance.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled on an official Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme at the University of Zaragoza.
  • Course load: You must be enrolled in at least the number of credit points required by the Federal Ministry for a part-time scholarship.
  • Sudden hardship: Due to an unexpected economic, social or family-related event, you do not currently have sufficient financial resources, which you can demonstrate by providing supporting documents.
  • No double funding: You will not receive any further public or private funding for the same purpose.
  • Academic record: You have passed enough exams over the past few years. The committee will decide whether your results are good enough.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Students from non-EU countries must also be resident in Spain, unless otherwise specified in an international agreement.
  • Field of study: Any subject.

How to apply

You can apply at any time during the academic year, as there is no fixed application deadline. Please submit the official form for the current year, together with supporting documents regarding your circumstances, to the university. A committee assesses each case individually, with financial need being the main criterion. Single parents and unemployed applicants are given priority if funds are limited.

How realistic are your chances?

This support is intended exclusively for students who are already enrolled at the University of Zaragoza and who find themselves in a genuine, verifiable emergency situation; consequently, the number of eligible students is small. If you can provide clear evidence of the sudden event and your financial hardship, and you meet the academic and performance requirements, your chances are good. As the committee decides on a case-by-case basis, a well-documented application is more important than a perfectly worded one. Apply for support as soon as your situation changes.
