University of León - Grants to support attendance to the Villa de Olmedo Classic Theatre Festival

What the grant covers

You will be offered a place on the classical theatre seminars, which take place alongside the ‘Olmedo Clásico’ festival in Olmedo (Valladolid, Spain), with the majority of your costs covered. The scholarship amounts to half the course fee (150 EUR). It also includes tickets for three festival performances, as well as accommodation and lunch for the three days of the seminars. The seminars last 30 hours over a period of approximately three days. You will receive a certificate and ECTS credits (academic credits that count towards your degree). The University of León funds this scholarship for its own students. The festival organisers and other regional universities offer similar scholarships to their students.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at the University of León.
• Study level: You are an undergraduate from the 2nd year onwards (any Faculty or School), or a Master's or doctoral student.
• Progress: You have passed at least 50% of the modules for which you were enrolled in the last academic year.
• Field of study: Anyone interested is welcome to apply. It would be an advantage if you have taken a course on theatre or on Spain’s Golden Age (Siglo de Oro).
• Grades: The average mark is the decisive factor in determining who receives funding.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at the University of León.
• No double funding: You cannot combine this grant with any other grant from the same university department, and you cannot apply if you are in paid employment. However, you can combine it with national and regional student grants.

How to apply

Please complete the online application form on the Olmedo Clásico website and attach a brief CV. The application deadline is 9 July. You will be notified before 13 July whether you have been awarded the scholarship. Please wait for the result before registering for the course and paying the course fee.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is highly selective: only students at the University of León who meet the academic requirements may apply, and only a small number of scholarships are awarded in each round of applications. If you are studying there, have good grades and, ideally, have a course in theatre or the ‘Golden Age’ on your academic transcript, your chances are good. The modest financial value and the subject-specific focus ensure that the pool of applicants remains manageable, meaning that a clear demonstration of suitability counts for more than a polished personal statement.
