About this scholarship

DESTINO Programme scholarship (Miguel Hernandez University)

You will receive 3,000 EUR to spend an academic semester at a partner university outside Europe, for example in Latin America, Brazil or an English-speaking country. The amount is always the same, regardless of the destination; a compulsory insurance fee will be deducted from this. Your stay abroad will last one semester and comprise 20 to 30 ECTS credits at the host university. The scholarship is funded and administered by the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) in Spain. In the 2026/2027 round, 12 scholarships will be awarded, including one reserved for applicants with a disability of at least 33% or with special educational needs.

Who can apply

  • University: You are a Bachelor’s student at the Miguel Hernández University in Elche, both at present and during the scholarship year.
  • Credits so far: By the application deadline, you will have completed at least 60 ECTS credits on your degree programme.
  • Nationality: You are an EU citizen, a non-EU citizen with a valid Spanish residence permit, or a recognised refugee or stateless person.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Language: For Brazil, you must provide evidence of your proficiency in Portuguese. For an English-speaking destination, you will need to provide evidence of English language proficiency at level B2 or above.
  • No double mobility: You cannot take part in both the Erasmus programme and SICUE (a Spanish exchange programme) in the same academic year.

How to apply

Applications are made online via UMH’s electronic enrolment system. The application deadline is in the spring, around the end of May, and the timeframe following the publication of the call for applications is short. Places are allocated through a selection process. Your ranking is based primarily on your grades relative to the average for your degree programme, supplemented by bonus points for language skills.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is restricted to UMH Bachelor’s students, so the pool of applicants is already small. However, as there are only 12 scholarships to be allocated across all departments, competition within this group is fierce. Selection depends on how significantly your marks exceed the average for your degree programme; key factors are therefore good academic performance and the required proof of language proficiency. First-time applicants to DESTINO are given preferential consideration. If this applies to you and your marks are solid, your chances are good.
