Fundación Romanillos scholarship for low-income students

You will receive a scholarship to fund your studies in Spain, which will run for 12 months. There is no fixed amount per student. The foundation decides on each scholarship individually, based on your family’s financial situation and your academic performance at school or university. The total amount for the 2026–2027 round is 250,000 EUR and will be divided amongst all successful applicants. The money will be paid out in two instalments: 40% from November 2026 and 60% from April 2027. The Fundación Romanillos, a private foundation in Madrid, runs this programme every year to help students who would otherwise be unable to afford to start or continue their education.

Who can apply

• Level of study: You are in upper secondary education (Bachillerato), on a vocational training course (Grado Medio or Superior), or studying at a university. Postgraduate studies are only funded if you were previously a Romanillos scholarship holder.
• Where you study: Any public or private school, college or university in Spain.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Financial need: Your family’s annual income must remain below a set threshold, which increases depending on the size of your family. For example: 11,130 euros for one person, 38,370 euros for four people, and approximately 4,655 euros extra for each additional family member from the eighth onwards.
• Nationality and age: There are no restrictions based on nationality, age, gender or religion.
• Working while studying: Having a part-time job whilst studying will look well on your application.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s website between 3 March and 7 April 2026. A provisional list of shortlisted applicants will be published in early July 2026. Only those named on this list will be asked by email to submit further documents before the final decision is made.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is awarded exclusively to students in Spain whose family income falls below clearly defined thresholds; consequently, the pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. As there is a shared funding pool and no fixed amount per scholarship, outstanding academic achievement and well-documented proof of financial need are crucial for applicants to stand out from the crowd. If you clearly meet the income thresholds and can demonstrate your academic achievements, your prospects are good.
