About this scholarship

What the Antonio Gala residency gives you

The programme takes place from October 2026 to May 2027 in Córdoba, Spain. The residency programme is closed during the two-week Christmas holidays and Semana Santa (Easter). The Fundación Antonio Gala para Jóvenes Creadores covers the costs of your accommodation, all meals, your studio space and your art materials whilst you are developing a creative project. There are no teachers, but specialist mentors are on hand to offer advice, and well-known artists occasionally visit. You will also be living alongside and exchanging ideas with fellow scholarship holders from other disciplines, such as writers, musicians, sculptors and painters. Composers are offered an additional opportunity: two chamber ensembles affiliated with the foundation (Cuarteto Jordán and Camerata Gala) may perform your work in a concert at the end of your stay. A total of 15 places are available, and you will not receive any cash remuneration.

Who can apply

  • Age: On the last day of the application period, you will be between 18 and 30 years old.
  • Language: You speak Spanish. This is an essential requirement.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Discipline: You work in a creative field, such as prose, poetry, theatre, musical composition, painting, sculpture, photography, architecture or comics. You may only apply in one field.
  • Reserved places: 3 places are awarded to artists from a Mediterranean country who are working on a project with a Mediterranean theme, and the 1 place is awarded to a researcher proposing a project on the life and work of Antonio Gala.

How to apply

If you are applying from abroad, please send your complete application documents by post to the Foundation in Córdoba or as a single PDF file by email. If you are applying from within Spain, please submit your documents in paper form by post. The application deadline is 15 April. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a face-to-face interview, which will take place via video call or telephone if you live abroad. The Foundation will then publish the final list on its website.

How realistic are your chances?

With just 15 places and applicants from all over the world, this is a highly competitive residency programme, even though not all places have always been filled in previous rounds. The Spanish language requirement narrows down the pool of applicants. A clear, well-reasoned project proposal is more decisive for selection than a lengthy CV. If your Spanish is sound and your project aligns with the foundation’s vision of interdisciplinary exchange, a compelling application stands a real chance of success.
