University of Castilla-La Mancha - Research Mobility Grants

What you get

You will receive a monthly grant as well as a one-off lump sum to cover travel expenses for a research stay of 1 to 6 months at another university or research centre. The monthly amount depends on your grade, your destination and the duration of your stay, and is up to 1,330 EUR per month at the highest level. The travel allowance is up to 300 EUR for stays within Spain, up to 600 EUR for other European countries and up to 800 EUR for the rest of the world. The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in Cuenca, Spain, runs the programme to enable its own teaching and research staff to undertake stays abroad and to build research networks.

Who can apply

• Where you work: You are employed full time by UCLM. This covers tenured professors, permanent or temporary staff, assistant professors (ayudante doctor or ayudante), and FPI/FPU doctoral researchers in their third or fourth year with a PhD work contract.
• Where you go: You will be spending your placement at a university or research centre outside UCLM, either in Spain or abroad. Placements abroad are preferred.
• Field of study: Open to all fields of research.
• No double funding: You will not receive any further funding for the same stay.
• Priority: You will be given priority if, since January 2010, you have received funding from this programme for less than 6 months (professors and permanent staff) or less than 9 months (other categories).

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the UCLM application portal, where the current calls for applications and the required documents are listed. There are three deadlines for 2026: 10 November 2025 (first round), 7 April 2026 (second round) and 18 June 2026 (an additional round funded by remaining resources). You must submit a letter of invitation from the host institution, a brief research plan and a signed report from your department.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is aimed exclusively at people who are already employed at UCLM, meaning that the pool of applicants is small and clearly defined. If you have a sound research proposal and can provide evidence of an invitation from a visiting scholar, your chances are good – particularly for a period abroad, which the university prioritises for funding. If you have received little or no funding from the programme since 2010, this will further improve your ranking.
