Urgent Necessity Enrolment Grant (University of Oviedo)

You will receive your public tuition fees covered, either in full or in part, for one academic year at the University of Oviedo if your family has encountered sudden or ongoing financial difficulties. The scholarship covers the modules for which you are enrolling for the first or second time. It does not cover modules that you are repeating for the third time. It fully covers your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis, provided you submit it before the decision on the award of the scholarship is made. If you have already paid your tuition fees, your faculty may refund them once the scholarship has been confirmed. The University of Oviedo is funding the grant with a budget of 50,000 EUR, as well as an expected further 20,000 EUR in additional study grants from the Principality of Asturias.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying on an official Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at the University of Oviedo. Self-organised degree programmes and PhD programmes do not count.
• Credits: You must enrol for at least 18 ECTS credits, unless you need fewer to complete your degree.
• Financial hardship: Your family has suffered a loss of income for a verified reason. These include the death, unemployment (including redundancies under the ERTE or ERE schemes), serious illness, addiction or permanent incapacity to work of a main breadwinner, as well as domestic violence or refugee status.
• Family income: Your household income is below the specified thresholds. These range from 14,818 EUR for a single person up to 56,348 EUR for eight members, plus 3,561 EUR for each additional member. However, a high level of family wealth may still lead to exclusion.
• Grades: You have passed at least 30% of the modules you enrolled in last year. If you are a new student, you need an entry grade point average of at least 5.00.
• Nationality: You are a Spanish national or an EU citizen; non-EU citizens must comply with the entry requirements. This must be the case by 31 December 2024.
• No overlap: You are not yet eligible for the Ministry of Education’s general grant or for exemption from enrolment fees for first-year students in Asturias. Furthermore, you do not yet hold a qualification at the same or a higher level.

How to apply

Apply online via the University of Oviedo’s electronic portal using your Uniovi login details between 9 March and 27 March 2026. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis: valid applications are assessed according to degree programme and family income; in the event of a tie, academic grades will be the deciding factor.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is intended exclusively for students at the University of Oviedo who are experiencing a genuine, proven financial hardship, meaning that the number of eligible applicants remains small. If you clearly meet the income thresholds, can demonstrate a valid reason and maintain good academic results, your chances are good. As the grants are awarded within the constraints of a fixed budget, a well-documented financial hardship is more important than a perfectly crafted application.
