About this award / prize

Health Sciences Award (Premio Ciencias de la Salud)

You will receive a one-off cash prize of 25,000 EUR for outstanding research in the field of biomedicine and health sciences. The prize is awarded once a year by the Fundación Caja Rural Granada in collaboration with the Andalusian Public Foundation for the Health Technology Park (PTS Granada), the regional government, the University of Granada and the Granada Medical and Pharmaceutical Associations.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: You are a researcher and are applying either individually or as part of a team. Applicants of all nationalities are eligible, and it does not matter which university or institution you are affiliated with.
  • What you submit: A completed research project in the field of biomedicine or health sciences.
  • Field of study: Your work falls into one of nine areas: regenerative medicine and gene therapy; molecular oncology and cancer genomics; genomics, proteomics and pharmacogenomics; immunology and immunopathology; molecular parasitology; neuroscience; nutrition and molecular endocrinology; biotechnology and new therapeutic targets; or cardiovascular disease.

How to apply

Please email your research paper, a completed entry form and a declaration of responsibility to the Foundation. The closing date for entries is 22 May 2026. A panel of experts from the partner institutions will assess the entries in terms of the quality, originality and practical relevance of the results.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a single, high-profile research prize, not a scholarship for students. Previous winners include leading Spanish biomedical researchers from prominent institutions such as the CNIC and the University of Granada. The bar is set at established, published research, so you will only have a genuine chance if you already have well-founded, original findings with clear relevance to the health sciences. If your work falls within one of the nine areas and meets this standard, it is worth applying.
