Lucio de las Casas Grants for tuition

You will receive 100% of your tuition fees covered at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) for one academic year. The scholarship covers the costs of the credit points you have enrolled in, and the money is paid directly to the university, not into your bank account. In recent award rounds, a laptop component has also been added, with a total of 10,000 EUR being divided amongst the scholarship recipients. The funding comes from the Fundación Canaria Lucio de las Casas, a foundation affiliated with the ULPGC that helps students in financial need to continue their studies. The scholarship does not cover administrative fees. For distance-learning courses, material costs are also not included.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at the ULPGC on an official bachelor’s degree programme (Grado) or a qualifying master’s degree programme and have earned at least 24 ECTS credits this academic year.
• Lost national scholarship: You had been awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Education or the Government of the Canary Islands, but lost it due to poor grades. This also applies if your records at the ULPGC show that you do not meet the eligibility criteria for these official scholarships.
• Financial need: You can provide evidence of financial hardship by submitting documents relating to your income and your family’s circumstances.
• Academic standing: Your academic performance is at least the "medium" level under ULPGC's progress rules.
• Not a repeat: You did not receive this grant last year, unless your circumstances have changed.
• Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at the ULPGC.

How to apply

Applications must be made online via the ULPGC’s electronic portal or via an online form. You must submit a written statement detailing your personal circumstances, together with supporting documents proving your financial need. The application deadline is 08.11. Provisional lists will be published in December, and the final decision will be made in December or January.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very strictly defined. You must be studying at the ULPGC, have lost an official scholarship for academic reasons, and demonstrate genuine financial hardship; consequently, very few students meet all three criteria at the same time. If this applies to you and you can clearly demonstrate your need, your chances are good. The foundation has only limited funds and supports well-justified cases; you should therefore gather your income and family documents well in advance.
