Talent grant for UPV/EHU Master's courses

You will receive 3,000 EUR for one academic year of a Master’s programme at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in Spain. If your Master’s programme lasts longer than one year, you may reapply for the second year. You will then receive an additional 1,500 EUR or a further 3,000 EUR for a Master’s programme comprising 120 credits, once you have successfully completed all the credits for the first year. The university awards 75 of these scholarships annually across five subject areas: Natural Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Law, and Arts and Humanities. Please note that the scholarship does not cover your enrolment fees; you will still need to pay these yourself.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are pre-registered or enrolled for all credit points on a Master’s programme at the UPV/EHU and are duly enrolled at the time the scholarships are awarded.
• Entry qualification: You hold the qualification required for admission to a Master’s programme.
• First Master's only: You have not yet obtained any other master’s degree from a university.
• Field of study: Any topic from the five areas is permitted.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, including international students.
• Clean record: You are not excluded from public funding as a result of any criminal or administrative sanction.
• No double funding: You are not in receipt of any other scholarship that requires you to commit time to it, and your salary does not exceed the Spanish minimum wage.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the UPV/EHU portal between 14 July and 30 September 2026. Applicants will be ranked according to their marks in their Bachelor’s degree. Shortlisted applicants will then be assessed on the basis of additional achievements such as language certificates, periods spent abroad and professional experience.

How realistic are your chances?

As 75 scholarships are awarded each year across five departments, there are a reasonable number of places available, but selection depends largely on your grades in your undergraduate studies. If you have good grades and can also demonstrate additional qualifications such as language certificates at level B2 or higher, or experience of studying abroad, your prospects are good. The application process is straightforward once you’ve enrolled, so a well-suited Master’s student in their first year of study has a good chance of success.
