Senate of Spain - Traineeships in parliamentary communication

What you get

You will receive 1,075 EUR gross per month for a whole year, paid in 12 instalments (a total of 12,900 EUR gross). The Spanish Senate (Senado) awards 3 of these internship places each year. You will work 30 hours per week as part of a team working on content, social media and audiovisual production for the Senate, supporting the institution’s internal and external communications as well as reporting on its official work. You will be registered with the Spanish social security system. The scholarship runs from 1 January to 31 December and cannot be extended.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a university degree (Grado) in journalism, audiovisual communication or advertising and public relations.
• Nationality: You are a national of Spain or another EU country.
• Age: You were born after 1 January 1998.
• First time: You have not yet received this Senate grant.
• Disability reserve: One of the 3 places is reserved for applicants with a recognised disability of 33% or more. If this place remains unfilled, it will be transferred to the open pool.
• Fitness for the role: You are able to cope with the physical and mental demands of the role.

Selection is based solely on merit, so you do not need to demonstrate financial need. You cannot combine this grant with other grants, paid employment or unemployment benefit in the same year.

How to apply

Please apply online via the Senate’s website using the official electronic form by 24 October at 24:00. Your application will be assessed on a scale of up to 100 points. The selection panel will assess your academic record, additional training in institutional and digital communication, further degree programmes, practical experience and language skills from level B2 onwards. Tests or interviews may also take place before the Senate’s governing body (Mesa del Senado) makes its final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

As there are only 3 places available each year and a degree in one of three specific areas of communication is required, the pool of applicants is small, but competition for these few places is fierce. If your degree meets the requirements exactly, you were born after 1998 and can demonstrate additional training, practical experience and language skills, you have a good chance of standing out from the crowd with your performance assessment. Convincing, well-documented evidence of your work in the field of communications is the key factor that will set you apart.
