AMA Scholarships for New Health Professionals

You will receive a one-off payment of up to 3,000 EUR for a course that prepares you for the state specialist medical examinations in Spain. This amount covers your course fees only and corresponds to the amount you have actually paid, up to a maximum limit that depends on your specialism: up to 3,000 EUR for MIR courses (medicine), up to 2,000 EUR for FIR courses (pharmacy), up to 1,600 EUR for EIR courses (nursing) and up to 1,000 EUR for PIR/QIR/BIR/RFIR courses (psychology, chemistry, biology, physics), as well as for postgraduate programmes in veterinary medicine and physiotherapy. Funding is provided by the Fundación A.M.A., a Spanish foundation affiliated with the insurer A.M.A., which awards 137 of these scholarships annually.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a university degree in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, psychology, chemistry, biology, physics, veterinary medicine or physiotherapy. Students in their final year of study are also eligible to apply, provided they complete their degree before the draw on 19 February 2026.
• What the course is for: You are taking a course to prepare for a national specialist medical examination (MIR, FIR, EIR, PIR, QIR, BIR, RFIR) or a postgraduate programme in veterinary medicine or physiotherapy. The course must take place at a Spanish educational institution.
• Where you study: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, but your degree programme must be undertaken at a Spanish higher education institution. A foreign degree must be officially recognised in Spain.
• A.M.A. link: You are a member or policyholder of A.M.A., or a first-degree relative of such a person. If this is not the case, you must take out insurance with A.M.A. before the scholarship is awarded.
• First time: You have not yet received any of these scholarships.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the online form on the Fundación A.M.A. website; one form must be completed per person. The application period runs from 13 November 2025 to 17 February 2026. The winners will be selected by a draw, which will take place on 19 February 2026 in the presence of a notary in Madrid. The results will be sent by email by 5 March 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

There is no academic selection process here. As soon as you meet the entry requirements, the 137 places will be allocated by lottery. Your chances therefore depend on how many eligible applicants apply for your subject area, and not on your grades or your CV. Make sure you meet the requirements of the department and the A.M.A., submit your application by the deadline, and you’ll have the same chances as all the other applicants.
