University of Burgos - UK Traineeship Grants for Humanities and Teacher Training Students

What you get

You will receive a travel bursary of 400 EUR for a four-week teaching placement at a British primary school in the Greater London area, organised in partnership with St Mary’s University. This amount covers part of your travel and accommodation costs, as well as the fee for the local criminal records check. You will receive 80% in advance and the remaining 20% upon completion of the placement. During the placement, you will work in a primary school class as a generalist. You will assist with lessons in maths, science and music in English and may also teach Spanish. A school supervisor, a lecturer from St Mary’s University and a supervisor from the University of Burgos will support you, and the placement will count towards your ‘Practical Training II’ module. The University of Burgos funds the scholarship and awards 6 places each year.

Who can apply

• Your degree: You are enrolled at the University of Burgos on the Bachelor’s degree programme in Primary School Teaching (Grado en Maestro de Educación Primaria), specialising in English.
• Study stage: You are currently enrolled on the ‘Practical Placement II’ module and have earned at least 150 ECTS credits.
• English level: You must have at least level B2. You can demonstrate this by means of an ACLES qualification, an examination set by the Centre for Modern Languages (CLM), or by passing the modules ‘Lengua Inglesa I’, ‘Lengua Inglesa II’ and ‘Didáctica del Inglés’.
• Recent participation: You did not take part in this programme during the last academic year.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled on this degree programme in Burgos.

How to apply

Please submit your application by 18 October, either in person or online, to the General Registry of the University of Burgos. A selection committee will rank applicants primarily on the basis of their grade point average and give priority to those who have earned the most ECTS credits. The results will be published within one month.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very restrictive: only students from Burgos enrolled on the ‘Primary Education’ degree programme with a specialisation in English who are currently undertaking their second teaching placement, have earned 150 ECTS credits and have achieved a grade of B2 in English are eligible to apply. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small. With 6 places available per year, your grade point average and the number of credit points you have earned will determine who is awarded a place. If you clearly meet the requirements and have a solid academic record, you have a realistic chance of being selected.
