About this scholarship

What you get

You receive travel money and a daily living allowance for a short research stay abroad, on top of your existing doctoral contract at the University of Murcia. You get up to 50 EUR per day for living costs. Travel is covered up to 600 EUR for destinations in Europe and up to 1,200 EUR outside Europe. The stay lasts at least 1 month and at most 3 months. A 3-month stay also lets you qualify for the "International Doctor" mention on your PhD title, which needs at least three months abroad. The University of Murcia funds this from a yearly budget of 60,000 EUR, which can rise to 70,000 EUR.

Who can apply

  • Your contract: You hold an active predoctoral contract (a paid research post while you do your PhD) under the University of Murcia's own research funding plan. Only this group can apply.
  • Contract status: Your contract must be active. You cannot apply while it is suspended, or after you have ended or given it up.
  • Purpose of the stay: The stay must be for research only, at a research institution abroad. Courses and conferences do not count.
  • Timing of the stay: The stay must happen within the calendar year the grant is awarded. December stays are normally excluded unless the research commission approves them.
  • Supervisor backing: Your PhD supervisor must confirm the stay fits your research plan. The host institution abroad must confirm it will take you in.

How to apply

You apply online at any time between 1 January and 30 September each year, so there is no single deadline. Your supervisor must validate the application before it counts as submitted. The university's research commission reviews applications regularly, and the rector makes the final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

Only current holders of a University of Murcia predoctoral contract can apply, so the eligible group is very small and competition is limited. If your contract is active and your supervisor backs a clearly research-focused stay, your prospects are good. The yearly budget is fixed, so applying early in the year is safer than waiting until September.
