About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive 2,000 EUR for an original archival research project on Tauste, a town in the Spanish region of Aragón. The amount will be paid as a one-off payment by bank transfer upon completion and submission of your project (less any statutory tax deductions). The scholarship is awarded every two years by the El Patiaz Cultural Association, which is dedicated to researching and promoting the history and cultural heritage of Tauste.

Eligibility

  • Topic: Your research must be based on original documents from public or private archives and make a new contribution to the history of Tauste.
  • Degree or status: You do not need to be a student or hold an academic qualification. Independent researchers, students and professionals are all equally welcome to apply, and the work does not need to be related to a dissertation or a formal course of study.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Age: No age limit.
  • Institution: You do not need to be affiliated with a university or any other organisation.

How to apply

Please submit a research project proposal as a PDF file by email to the association by 31 May of the year in which the call for proposals is issued. A panel of judges will assess all proposals and announce the winning project by 30 June. The winner will then carry out the research and submit the completed work by 15 December.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very narrowly defined: your project must focus on original archive documents relating specifically to Tauste – a subject that is usually the focus of only a handful of researchers. If you submit a well-researched archival project on the history of Tauste, the small number of applicants will work in your favour. In some previous rounds of applications, no grant was awarded because no application met the requirements; therefore, a well-prepared, genuinely original project is more important than the number of applicants.
