Archaeological Museum of Alicante - Internships for graduates in Library Science

What you get

You will receive 800 EUR gross per month for an internship at the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ). It lasts 6 months and can be extended by up to 4 further months, making a total of up to 10 months. The Alicante Provincial Council (Diputación) will cover your social security contributions during the placement. You will gain practical experience working with the museum’s book and document collections. Under the guidance of the museum staff, you will learn how to organise, catalogue and inventory these collections. Two of these placements in the library and archive department are offered each year. This is a training placement and not a job, so you are not entitled to severance pay or subsequent employment.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a Spanish qualification in Library and Information Science, such as a ‘Licenciatura en Documentación’, a ‘Diplomatura en Biblioteconomía y Documentación’ or a ‘Grado en Información y Documentación’.
• When you graduated: You finished your degree after 31 December 2010.
• Nationality and residence: You are a Spanish national and live in the province of Alicante.
• No overlap: You are not currently receiving any other scholarship or engaged in any other paid work, and you have not yet completed this MARQ work placement.
• Clean record: You have no outstanding debts to the Diputación and no outstanding tax or social security debts.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted to the Diputación de Alicante via its online portal, where the full terms and conditions of the call for applications are published. The deadline for applications is 28 January. A selection panel will assess applicants on the basis of their academic achievements, relevant courses, professional experience and language skills. A practical test or an interview may take place before a decision is made.

How realistic are your chances?

This internship is cut narrowly. You must be a Spanish national living in Alicante province, hold a specific library-science degree, and have graduated after 2010. The eligible pool is small and only 2 places are offered. If you clearly meet those conditions and can show strong grades plus relevant experience, your prospects are good. Points for Valencian and other EU languages can tip a close decision, so include any language proof.
