Navarra agriculture training scholarship

You will receive 900 EUR per month for a paid work placement with the Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock of the Regional Government of Navarre, Spain. The region will also contribute approximately 35 EUR per month towards your social security contributions. The placement lasts for up to 36 months (3 years) and is awarded in periods of up to 12 months each. You will work in real administrative units in the fields of crop production, plant health, plant protection products or viticulture (vine and wine research), thereby gaining practical experience following your studies.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a qualification in agricultural engineering recognised in Spain (Ingeniero Agrónomo, Ingeniero Técnico Agrícola or an equivalent qualification in the field of food and agricultural engineering).
• Timing: You completed your degree no more than 3 years before the call.
• Residence: You must have been resident in Navarre for at least one year prior to the date of the call for applications.
• Nationality: You are a Spanish citizen, an EU citizen or a national of a country with which the EU has concluded an agreement on the free movement of persons. If Spanish is not your mother tongue, you must provide evidence that you have a sufficient command of Spanish.
• Age: You are at least 18.
• Practical needs: You hold a Class B driving licence and do not have any health conditions that would prevent you from carrying out your training duties.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted to the Ministry of Rural Development in Pamplona or online via the Navarre administrative portal. The application deadline is 15 working days after the publication of the call for applications (for the 2014 round, this was at the end of March). A selection panel assesses applicants primarily on the basis of their weighted average mark and any further training in this field. There is no interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is highly selective. You must hold a specific degree in agricultural engineering obtained within the last 3 years, and have been resident in Navarre for at least one year, meaning that very few people meet the criteria. Only a handful of places are offered per selection round, and selection depends almost entirely on your grades. If you clearly meet the subject and residency requirements and have a very good academic record, your chances are good.
