What the Talentia scholarship gives you

You will receive funding for a Master’s degree or a PhD at a leading university abroad. For a Master’s programme, you will receive up to 1,880 EUR net per month for up to two years (up to three years for a PhD). The scholarship also covers your tuition fees, up to 100%, depending on your income. In addition, depending on your destination, you will receive a travel allowance of between 300 and 1,000 EUR, a one-off settlement allowance of 1,500 EUR, and 6,000 EUR per year if you bring children or dependants with you. All additional payments combined can amount to up to 52,900 EUR. PhD students, on the other hand, receive an employment contract worth 16,500 EUR gross per year, plus a supplement of 10,800 EUR. The scholarship is provided by the Junta de Andalucía, the regional government of Andalusia in southern Spain, and is administered by the Andalusian Knowledge Agency.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a national of an EU country.
• Link to Andalusia: You were born there, live there, are an Andalusian living abroad, or studied at an Andalusian university.
• Degree: You obtained your bachelor’s degree within the last 10 years.
• Admission: You have already been offered a firm, unconditional place to study your chosen subject at a prestigious university abroad.
• Where you go: You are studying abroad, ideally at one of the 133 partner universities in 24 countries (including the USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, the UK and France). Other universities are possible, provided you can justify your choice.
• Field of study: All subject areas are open. You have particularly good prospects in nine key areas of the Andalusian innovation strategy, such as renewable energy, health, the digital economy, and the agri-food sector.
• Return commitment: You undertake to return to Andalusia within four years of completing your studies, for example by working there for at least four of the following eight years.

How to apply

You can submit your application online via the Junta de Andalucía’s electronic register or in person at any public registry office. The application deadline is one month and ends on 4 October. A selection panel will assess your academic and professional profile (60%), the quality of your chosen degree programme (20%), your plan to return to Andalusia (15%) and your links to Andalusian higher education institutions (5%).

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is awarded on a highly selective basis. Applicants must have a clear connection to Andalusia, be an EU national and have secured a place at a prestigious university abroad, meaning that the pool of eligible candidates is small. In the 2017 round, 34 Master’s scholarships were available, with a budget of 1.8 million euros. If you meet the criteria and can present a credible plan for your return to Andalusia, your chances are good. Choosing a subject from one of the nine priority areas will strengthen your application.
