About this scholarship
UPM Travel Bursaries
You will receive your travel costs reimbursed for a journey that forms part of your studies at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). It covers the return journey to your destination in Spain or abroad. In addition, a grant towards accommodation costs may be awarded once you have provided full proof of your travel expenses. There is no fixed amount. For each call for applications, a maximum amount per applicant is set depending on the destination, the mode of transport used and the number of students applying for the same activity. The UPM will pay the amount by bank transfer once you have submitted your receipts. Your journey must be at least 200 km (return journey) to be eligible. The grant does not cover meals, local transport (bus, underground, taxi) or local transfers.
Who can apply
- University: You are enrolled at UPM for the current academic year.
- Degree level: You are currently enrolled on a state-recognised Bachelor’s (Grado) or Master’s (Máster Universitario) degree programme, or on a state-recognised degree programme that is due to be phased out. PhD students, participants in continuing professional development programmes and students on private degree programmes (títulos propios) are not eligible to apply.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Purpose of the trip: The trip must be related to your studies. Examples: a compulsory field trip, an unpaid work placement, research for your final dissertation, a course or conference in your field of study, an unfunded exchange programme, or a humanitarian project with a non-governmental organisation. Tourism, language courses, exam-related trips and trips organised by academic departments do not count.
How to apply
Submit the standard form together with the required documents to your UPM centre. For humanitarian travel and travel undertaken on behalf of UPM, apply for funding directly to the Department of Continuing Education. The application must be submitted at least one working day before departure. The exact submission period will be announced in each call for applications. The Rector decides on the award of funding.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a travel grant for a specific purpose and not an open scholarship; therefore, only enrolled UPM students whose travel is clearly study-related may apply. If your trip falls into one of the eligible categories, meets the 200-km rule and you apply with the required documents before setting off, your chances are good. Apply early, as there is a fixed budget available for each call for applications.
